In the middle of the 15th century a man named Johann Gutenberg discovered a method of printing from forms created by small pieces of interchangeable lead type. His invention would radically alter western history forever. Gutenberg had found not only a way of quickly reproducing texts, but had liberated the potential for expressing ideas from the religious elite. Printed books spread like wildfire across all of Europe, especially the bible. This method of printing eventually came to be known as "letterpress printing".
Letterpress is a specialized form of relief printing that has recently been getting quite a bit of attention. Relief printing basically means the ink is pressed into the surface of the paper so that the printed material is 'de-bossed' into the fibers. This means the most distinguishing property of letterpress printing is often the impression in the paper. In other words - it looks great and feels good!
GimmeGrace has chosen to utilize this method of printing to pay respect to Gutenberg and add to the interactive, tactile and emotional experience of sending and receiving greeting cards. We believe it is the perfect way to showcase the modern designs on our Christian cards and hope you enjoy the beauty that only letterpress printing can produce as much as we do.
